We ended our day with a drive out to Cape Disappointment. This lighthouse was built to mark the entrance of the Columbia River. It got it's name because there were so many ships that wrecked on the cape even after the lighthouse was built that they had to build another one to guide the ships. We were disappointed that there was a 2 mile hike to get to the lighthouse so we skipped it and headed for the bar. It's where the Columbia river meets with the Pacific Ocean. The water was really turbulent at the calm river met with the ocean. We walked out on the bar to watch the water. It was cool to see a couple of dolpins playing there. It was really windy and cold so we couldn't stay long. On the way back to the car, Cord drew a path in the sand with his "beach stick". Kind of reminded me of "Harold and the Purple Crayon".
Since we haven't seen enough lighthouses, we stopped by to see the North Head Lighthouse that was built to help prevent so many shipwrecks. It's one of the windiest places in America.
