New Years Eve

We enjoyed our last visit for 2009 to St. George. My sister Maria risked her family's life to come down on wed through a snowstorm in Salt Lake so we could have a night to be together and play games. Because I work tonight, we had to leave St. George in the morning but not before we made the kids dress up and take a pic for the family calendar. Tonight I work, Chelsea has a babysitting job, and the other kids will stay home and celebrate with daddy. We have a good view of the strip so the kids can go up on the balcony to see the fireworks. I also got the kids some confetti poppers and sparkling cider in the "fancy cups" to ring in the new year! Who knows where 2010 will take us?

Christmas past and Christmas Present

I honestly can't remember how old I was when this picture was taken. We think Maria was 4 which makes Amber 6 and me 8. We all got these "underoos" for Christmas. My mom made us put them on and pose in front of the tree with our new dolls. I was old enough to be HORRIFIED to take this picture in my underwear. And to make things worse, my mom put it in a collage of pictures that my dad hung in his office. I was so embarrassed to walk into my dads work knowing that everyone there had seen me in my UNDERWEAR! Now we look back and the picture is a classic.

My wonderful sister, Maria, with a quirky sense of humor actually found some grown up "underoos" and decided it would be funny to give them to us for Christmas this year. She also went to the effort to track down the picture for us, which wasn't easy. My mom couldn't find the original picture so Maria had to go through a box of negatives (after searching through all the picture albums). She actually found the negative but it was an odd size so she had to track down someone who could reproduce the picture with their new machines. I'm so impressed with her efforts and I LOVE LOVE LOVED the gift. We wanted to recreate the scene so we tried them on and grabbed our "dolls". So much fun. We always knew we were "Super Women". And then my sister Amber forbade me from posting them on-line. I am tempted to zoom in to me and make this my new profile picture on facebook - or maybe not.

Mason birthday celebration with cousins

Happy 11th birthday to my big boy Mason. He actually shares a birthday with his cousin Rhylan who turns 6 this year. We were lucky that they were up in Utah to celebrate the holidays so we headed up to St. George so we could have a double birthday celebration. We took all the cousins to Jumping Jacks to have a good time. Within 30 minutes they were all sweaty but still had lots of energy and smiles on their faces. Some of the pics are dark because sometimes they turn off the main lights and have the disco lights going with the music. Then we went back to grandma's for dinner, cake, presents, and movies for the kids and games for the parents. Tonight we are having a big cousin sleepover at grandmas. We love family time! Since Mason has made quite a few friends in school here we will have a little party with his friends once school gets started again.

Friend therapy

Besides getting to spend quality time with my sisters, I also got to sneak away and spend time with good friends. First was to attend Angela's surprise baby shower. My mom misunderstood and thought it was an open house so we went up after we fed everyone and missed most of it. It was good to visit for a few minutes. But then we all went to lunch the next day. It's been a while. I guess moving across the country and then close but not close enough really messed up our birthday lunch plans. But it's always good to catch up. We've grown up together and I'm so glad we still keep in contact!

I also got to sneak away for a midnight snack with Brenda last night after I put the kids in bed. I had my camera in my purse but was so excited to see her and get to talking that I totally forgot to snap a picture. We could have had the Village Inn people who were sitting around waiting for us to leave take a picture for us. We were the only ones in the place for the last hour but we didn't care. There never seems to be enough time to get caught up but I always feel so much better after meeting with friends! Thanks!

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas everyone. It looks like Santa made it to our house last night. When i got home from work, Chelsea was the only one up and excited to open gifts. I held her off for a little while but then released her to go wake up the others. Cord was the grumpiest until he got downstairs and realized what was about to happen!

It was a nice Christmas. It seems that the kids were on the nice list because they got the things they wished for from Santa, plus some bonus gifts from mom and dad. Mike and I agreed not to gift each other this year so we could spend everything we had making it nice for the kids, but he ignored the rule and had got me a collection of dolls for my doll cabinet. I haven't gotten out all my dolls during the moves because I have so many of them. He didn't like seeing the cabinet empty and had the chance to buy a collection from a friend so each of the kids gave me some dolls.

But the best gift i received was a piano song from Chelsea. At the beginning of the month she had said she wanted to learn "Breath of Heaven" on the piano, but I never heard her playing it. One time I even asked her and she said no it was to hard. Boy was I surprised when she said she had a gift for me. She had worked really hard and only practiced when i wasn't home. She had also gotten mason trained on how and when to turn the pages for her. Such a collaboration and I had NO idea it was even happening. It was the perfect gift because it was from her heart and it was beautiful! Thanks Chelsea!!!!

Cord got his train set and a set of tools from santa. He also got a basketball hoop, t-ball stand, play digital camera, along with puzzles and books.

Mason got his Mario Bros wii game along with 2 mario DS games. He also got some lego sets, several bakugan, and a few more DS and wii games.

Brianna got a camera and lots of make-up from Santa. She also received some dance posters from her favorite artist Edgar Degas, 2 subscriptions to dance magazines, and clothes :)

Chelsea also got a camera, her new moon poster, an adapter to play her ipod in the car. She also got 2 photo magazines, several CD's and books. One of her favorite gifts was the "drivers handbook" so she could start studying for her drivers permit (but not until May).

After the fun of opening presents we had scones for breakfast. Then I took a nap. That afternoon we all headed up to St. George to join the family for Christmas dinner. My mom made the best homemade Cordon Blue! We also enjoyed visiting with Mike's parents that evening and then joining my sister for card games.

Christmas Eve

A low key night. Thanks to Chelsea my photographer in training I have pictures. The boys kept track of where Santa was on Norad.com so they could know when they had to head to bed. Chelsea made santa's favorite cookies (pumpkin chocolate chip). When it was bedtime they made sure to set out cookies and milk for santa. We usually set out carrots for the raindeer, but i didn't have any and had already been to the grocery store 3 times that day. So we decided they would like some apples as a treat this year instead. We hope santa makes it to our house!

Christmas Eve Eve

Since I have to work on Christmas eve this year, we celebrated our eve traditions on the eve's eve. We usually go out to eat - this year we were at the Sunset Casino's buffet. We like a buffet because everyone can find something they like to eat so everyone is happy. Then we driving around checking out some of the fantastic light displays. Last but not least getting to open up their new Christmas jammies. The bad thing is that now all the kids feel like it's going to be Christmas tomorrow. Too bad they still have to wait until tomorrow night for Santa to come.

Chelsea love loves Charlie Brown Christmas like her daddy. We found this cool house and made her get out and get in the picture.

Sweet Dreams my little ones!

Letters from Santa

With only 2 more days left to be good (lets face it....sometimes it's really hard!), the boys got an extra boost incentive today. They got letters from the North Pole. Turns out a couple of elves took time to respond to the letters that the boys sent to Santa. How exciting!

Christmas breakfast

Everyone from work got together for breakfast to celebrate the holidays. I don't know if I was laughing so much becauase I was so tired (went after working a shift) or because or the christmas "spirits" that everyone enjoyed (not me, I just enjoyed watching). Either way, it was fun to get out a do something with adults for a change.

Almost ready

Only 3 more days left. The house is ready. I keep thinking that I have all the presents ready but keep remembering little things I still need to get. UGGGH! The shopping centers and roads are crazy. Almost everything is wrapped. I have to work on Christmas eve so I have to make sure everything is ready. Notice there are no presents under the tree, Cord won't leave them alone. I guess there are a couple, we'll see if they can last until Christmas. And I finally got the Christmas cards out today. At least they will get there before the New Year. Better late than never right? I'm sure people's holiday just won't be complete until they find out how the McKelleb family is doing this year......hahaha.

Christmas newsletter

We had some challenges getting our Christmas card/ newsletter together this year. Mainly, we couldn't get the whole family together in one spot with someone who could take our picture for the card. We even planned on going up to St. George for pictures taken by a family member, but it was rainy and cold and Mike ended up not coming with us because he had to finish a paper. Finally we got my camera out and figured out how to use the timer mode. We have never used it before but it actually turned out. Cord thought it was hillarious to watch me run into the picture and then we all watched the blinking light go faster until the flash went off. He was laughing through the whole "shoot". We got pictures good enough to put together a decent card. I also wanted to document our newsletter for when I print my book next year. So ignore this post if you have already received a letter, but you can enjoy some of the pics from our shoot. :)

Can you believe it's been almost three years since we started this whole law school adventure? Time flies fast on this end. We moved to Henderson Nevada in February this year when Mike was able to transfer to UNLV to finish his degree and get us closer to home. It was tough to leave our new friends behind but we have enjoyed finding new adventures here in the Las Vegas area. This summer we also enjoyed a trip down to San Diego and a week spent in a cabin at Brianhead with family!

I'm working at a St. Rose Dominican Hospital - San Martin campus- in the ICU. I'm still on the old night shift, taking care of critically ill patients and those who have just had heart surgery. I have loved being closer to home and we have made frequent weekend trips up to St. George. I am surprised how much I miss Mass. and cherish that experience. In my free time I try to get caught up on my scrapbooks or update my blog. The highlight of my year was when I got to sneak away and attend a scrapbook convention with a good friend (without the kids!). Mike and I team teach the 7 yr olds in Primary. They are a fun group of kids.

Chelsea (15) started her freshman year at Coronado High School. She says the best part is her after school seminary class. She also enjoys her photography class and has been playing a little on the guitar. She decided to take the piano back up this year and she is progressing quickly. She was just called to serve as the Mia Maid class president, putting her natural leadership skills to work. She constantly reminds us that in May she is eligible to get her drivers permit. (Are we really that old?)

Brianna (13) is living in a "world of dance". We found her a dance studio where she enjoys taking ballet and jazz lessons. Her goal is to get on pointe this next year. She also ventured out and tried out for her middle school dance team. She was thrilled when she find out she made it! We look forward to watching her perform at some of the schools sporting events. She makes friends easily and has adjusted quite well with the move. She was also called to serve as the 1st councilor in her Beehive class.

Mason (11) is having a great year in 5th grade. He is pulling straight A's and was the student of the week for the value of "self-control". We're still adjusting to the year-round school schedule. The 5th grade is taking a trip to Sea World in May and will get to sleep next to the shark tanks. He just earned his Webelos badge and his Arrow of Light! Yeah! And for the second year in a row he won the pine wood derby. This year his car set a new track record.

My baby, Cord, just turned 3. WOW! He is always on the go and loves to be outside. He has a language all his own and jabbers all day. We just have no idea what he is saying. He is in a little "pre-sunbeam" class at church where they are learning to sit in primary. We are surprised at how well he does and is so cute when he tries to do the actions to the songs. He loves going to church! He also loves being mom's shadow or hanging out with his big brother. He enjoys reading books, playing with cars/trains, and especially tossing the ball.

Then, there's the instigator, the one who started this whole move from one end of the country to the other and back again. With graduation in May, we have just one more semester to go. Michael is doing great! When he transferred from Western New England College in Mass. he was in the top 10% of his class and since the transfer has been able to make the Deans List each semester. Last year he was inducted into The Society of Advocates and was appointed as the Saltman Liaison (to the Saltman Center for Conflict Resolution). This semester, as part of his Saltman duties he was the Director of the in-house ABA Client Counseling Competition and will also oversee the in-house ABA Negotiation Competition next semester. In November, he traveled to Provo and represented UNLV at the ABA Regional Negotiation Competition. Most recently, he proposed to the director of the Saltman Center that they host an annual fund-raiser for the Center, and is now working with the Dean to put on the Inaugural Saltman 5K Fun Run, which will be held in March on UNLV's campus. In between this and his studies he works at a law office down-town. He'll start applying for permanent jobs next month, who knows where we'll be at this time next year? Alaska?

We hope this holiday season finds you and your family well. We are hoping you find peace, joy, and happiness in the upcoming new year!

Love - Mckelleb Family
