Eggs to Dye for

One of our favorite easter activities include coloring eggs. The older kids really take their time with them. This year they tried some tye dye technique. Cord just loves to dip the eggs into every color. It takes about a week for all the eye to come off his fingers. I got the kids started then had to go to work. Thanks to Chelsea for taking pictures for me!

Dressing up for Easter

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE dressing up the kids in new Easter Clothes. I love the bright colors and spring colors. Since Easter falls on a conference they got to wear them a week early.

Cord-e-que

Mason Moo

Brianna Banana

Chelsea Bells

Shopping for cute modest dresses is always a challenge. We got lucky with these cute dresses and just added a bright colored shirt underneath. One surprise was that Mason actually picked out his purple shirt. He was looking really sharp. Cord is in the stage where he'll still wear whatever I put on him. Sometimes he has an opinion but not really.

I was all excited to go to church because I love to watch some type of Easter program to get us into the holiday spirit. But the only thing Eastery at church was the lesson we gave to our primary kids so I was kind of disappointed.

Phantom of the Opera

The girls and I hit the town with my parents tonight and saw Phantom, something we have really wanted to since we moved here a year ago. Not much to say except that it was AMAZING! One of the best experiences ever. We had seats right under the chandelier. When it drops during the play, it would have smashed us. We could feel the wind of the fall. Plus there were lots of other cool special effects. My dad even admitted that it was his "2nd favorite play of all times". Which is better than an "it was ok" which is what we normally get. After further prompting we learned that his first all time favorite was seeing Les Miserables in SLC. We all decided it was the experience of a lifetime. We knew we couldn't take pics during the play, but thought we could get some inside the theater until the usher walked up to us with a "no-no" look on her face. I did find some cool pics on-line with the characters that we saw so we could remember this amazing night.

Boys night

While the girls were at the play, cousin Ethan came down with grandma and grandpa to hang out with Mason. They had a good time playing video games, playing with legos, or computer games. As soon as we got home Mason challenged grandpa to a game of chess. Mason won! And grandpa swears that he didn't "let him win", he won it fair and square.

Egg Hunt

We had a fun primary activity today. After going through 3 stations "walking the footsteps of Jesus", the kids got to go outside for an easter egg hunt. Cord was so excited and had a good time running around. Mason decided to play it cool. You remember what it's like going to primary activites when you are 11. He preferred to stay behind and hang with his friends but still got to take home some candy eggs. Fun was had by all.

Mason Activities

Lately Mason has been exploring some of his interests, chess and art. He is participating in an advanced art class before school on mondays. He has also been attending a chess club on tuesdays and thursdays to learn more tricks. It ended with a chess tournament in which he took 2nd place. Go Chess Master Mason!

Here's one of his art projects he did in school. So Cool!

Another note of celebration.... in 5th grade the kids work on several projects called "Give Me Liberty". If they pass everything off by the end of the year they get a cool plaque but it's not easy. So far Mason has passed off writing the Pledge of Allegiance without any mistakes, reciting all the presidents (first and last names) in order (he did this perfectly - no helps), sing the national anthem, recite the Preamble of the Constitution (both perfectly), and the latest triumph - states and capitals. We've been working on it for 2 months. He had a blank map and had to identify both the state and capital and spell them correctly, you can make 3 errors. He passed it off with only 2 mistakes. YEAH!!!! The only thing left to memorize the Gettysburg address. I asked his teacher what the mom's award is if I could pass it off too - she said I could keep the plaque after he moves out in 10 years. hahaha

Profile picture

Chelsea was out doing her photography homework and we ended up with the great shot of her that has become her latest profile for her facebook. We just got lucky with a cool location because this shot has nothing to do with the homework that she was shooting.

Girls just wanna have fun

What a beautiful day it was outside. We have to remember days like this when it's like 120 outside. The kids took advantage of the day and spent time hanging out with their friends.

Brianna and her friends hopped on their bikes with their lunches and went down to the park for a picnic. They were gone forever (what did our parents do without cell phones to keep track of us?) but had a good time hanging out. They are back over tonight for a late night movie - "New Moon" of course.

Chelsea got to spent the day at a stake youth conference (for 14 and up). Friday night was a talent show. Today was workshops and then a dinner/ dance is tonight. Tomorrow is a testimony meeting. I hope they have fun tonight.

Saltman 5K

Mike is not taking it easy for his last semester of school and it all boiled down to this weekend. He was in charge of organizing both a negotiation competition that was on friday, and the 1st ever "Saltman 5K" saturday morning. He had the idea for this run and proposed it to the school at the beginning of the year. It was a little stressful being in charge of both but he was able to pull them both off. We went this morning to help him out. I was in charge of taking pictures of the event and the girls came to be helpers. They were planning on handing out water at one of the stations but ended up holding down the balloon arch while Chelsea helped write down times. It was fun to watch and be involved.

It was exciting to see the Dunn's come down from St. George to support Mike. It was fun to see a friendly face and fun to see them running. Thanks!
