School begins

The glorious day is finally here, school started. Yeah!

Chelsea begins 10th grade at Coronado High School. She loves her classes this year and is especially excited about intermediate guitar and her music appreciation class

Mason begins 6th grade at Bob Miller Middle school. He was able to master his schedule and locker without a problem. He wasn't the least bit concerned about it (unlike his mom) but survived the day. He especially enjoys riding the bus for the first time ever. And it's nice that he doesn't have to wear uniforms to school (although that really didn't bother him).

Brianna started 8th grade at Bob Miller Middle school. She was bummed about her schedule because she doesn't have any classes with her friends - not even the lunch period. And she didn't get into the French class that she wanted. But I'm not worried about her, she makes friends everywhere she goes.

Cord loves his new school, new friends, and new teacher. He does well with the AM class and comes home happy instead of trying to fall asleep on the bus.

They are growing up so fast. We'll only have two more years to take a picture like this!

End of summer celebration

To celebrate the end of summer, we took the kids to see the Blue Man Group tonight at the Venetian. We all laughed so hard. I tried to get the kids to tell me their favorite part but all 3 of them were unable to. There were so many fun parts. I find it interesting that they can take someone from the audience and get them to do things without saying a word. At the end they start a roll of paper and it gets passed up all the way up to the front. At one point I thought I had lost Mason in a pile of streamers. Mike and I had seen the show several years ago and I was surprised that it hadn't changed much. I asked Mason if he wanted to be a "blue man" when he grew up since he has expressed an interest in drums. He said he would have to "think about it".

Cords new preschool

Cord got transferred to the school that is closer to us for his preschool. So today we got to go meet the teacher and see the classroom. I took my camera because i knew he wouldn't be embarrassed if I were taking pictures. Cord loved the classroom and the new toys. I liked the new teacher. There are only 11 kids in the class. I had to drag him out of there with the promise that he will get to come back on monday on the bus. The school's theme is "Rainforest". Cord loved looking at all the animals pained along the halls. It's going to be a great year!

Cord loves his new Toy Story backpack and has worn it all day. I think it's funny that it's almost as big as he is. It even has "a little light bulb that blinks" hehe. Next on the schedule - getting new shoes. Cord has been bugging me all day for "new shoes". Everytime we got in the car he asked "new shoes?". When we got to the shoe store it took him about two minutes to find his new Lightening McQueen tennis shoes and he has worn them ever since. I finally peeled them off when he climbed into bed. This kids is excited about everything involved in going BACK TO SCHOOL (and he's only 3).

Getting ready

Today the middle school kids got the chance to go to the school and pick up your schedule. For those 6th graders (and nervous moms) its the chance to get familiar with the school, try out your locker, and map out your class route. Mason will have 6 classes. He ended up in orchestra - WHAT? I don't remember signing him up for orchestra. After talking with the councilor we discovered that we did put it down as his 3rd choice. I'm not sure what I was smoking when we filled that out. So after a long deliberation, we switched him to Band - the woodwinds section. So he'll get his new schedule Monday night. All the kids go back on Monday. Brianna was disappointed that she didn't get into the Early Bird program because she wanted to take both French and Art. Then she didn't even get into the French class that a lot of her friends got into. She's not in any classes with her close friends - bummer. But Brianna has a ton of friends at school and I'm sure she'll be fine.

Excuse the poor quality of these pics. I didn't want to embarrass Mason by taking my big camera to document this momentous occasion into the world of teenagers so I took a few pics on my phone. We tried the locker several times. Cord even had some fun with the lockers and he looked so cute walking around with the big kids wearing his new Toy Story backpack. Mason doesn't seem nervous at all about the experience. I'm sure he'll be fine. But will I???

A little privacy please...

This is Cord's latest "home" or his personal hide-out. We have found him several times sitting behind the couch playing his game-boy. He even puts his cardboard car there to help block himself in. I guess sometimes you just need a little time to yourself.

It's Official

So I guess this makes it official. We got his diploma in the mail. I'm not sure I'm crazy about the matte that I put it in, but Mike wouldn't let me spend a lot of money getting it custom framed. It was the best of the choices there. But it will look nice hanging on the wall. What an accomplishment.

I REFUSE TO CALL HIM DOCTOR THOUGH!

Cooling Off

Well in the mornings it's finally under 100 degrees here which makes it almost tolerable to be outside. Brianna is in San Diego with Kennedy and Chelsea was at a sleepover, so the boys and I headed to the park/ splash-pad to cool down. Mason invited his friend Nicholas and they had a great time splashing around.

Prom time???

Nope. Not yet. Chelsea and I went to Deseret book today which is next to a bridal store. On a whim we went in just to "look". Chelsea found a dress that she just loves. She's a simple girl. I loved the lime green one because it's flashy and silky. I should be grateful she doesn't have expensive taste. She turns 16 in October. Homecoming is about the same time. She just has to get a date (which shouldn't be hard to do). Lindsay - it would be cool to see what you could do with this :)

Concert Fantasy

Brianna has been working hard all summer with her dance studio. The end product was a fantastic dance production this weekend. She was in two dances, one ballet and one jazz, and did a fantastic job. It's so much fun to watch her dance. We decided that she has the best botty shake of her whole group which was really accentuated with her white costume. You could see her laughing with her girls up there and it was obvious she was enjoying herself.
