San Diego Zoo

As a bonus, my brother in law was able to score us some free tickets to the zoo.  It was a super busy day because the kids from San Diego were also on spring break.  It took 45 minutes just to find a parking spot.  Chelsea had to follow some old people leaving the zoo so we could zone in on their spot.  But the nice thing about being in the huge zoo was that it doesn't feel crowded.  Because we didn't have to pay for our tickets, we didn't feel like we needed to see EVERYTHING to get our moneys worth either.  I asked the kids the main things they wanted to see and we made sure to hit those.  We rode the bus tour first thing.  Then we headed over to the sky ride to get to the other end of the park.  The important animals to see were the elephants (for Chelsea), giraffes, panda, and the polar bears. Cord really wanted to see the lions and tigers.  The kids also voted unanimously to ride the sky ride again.  The weather was great and we enjoyed being together.

Hanging on the beach

The reason we headed to San Diego was to hang out on the beach. I love hearing the waves, playing in the sand, the smell of the ocean, and feeling the warmth of the sun. The water was cold, but that didn't stop Cord. He just jumped right in.

Cord was so excited to grab the board and headed out the water.

After his ride on the wave, he emerged and said "not good".  The water was to cold and he got soaking wet.  It was the only ride he took so I'm glad I took a picture of it.

After a little digging around in the sand, the boys came upon some sand crabs.  That was the end of the adventure for Mason.  Combined with the little bugs on the sand and the fact that Chelsea got pooped on by a bird were enough to make Mason head for cover.  He said he still enjoyed watching the waves and reading his book.

We loved hanging on the beach together.  I just hope that next time I remember to put sunscreen on the tops of my feet.  OUCH!!!!

Boys being boys

The boys were hanging out on a hillside near my sister's house. There's a cool tree hut that they have made. I love to watch boys being boys.

Hanging out in Julian

We are on spring break this week so we headed down to San Diego to spend time with my sister and her family.  The first day we drove up into the mountains to see the small town of Julian.  It is a little mining town and they are famous for their apples.  It was a little chilly (45 degrees) but a cute town.  I gave each kid $20.00 spending money so it made it more interesting to wander through the shops.

Cord bought this cute pop gun.  Well it was cute in the store but not so cute in the car on the way home.

We had to stop and check out the famous apple pie.
