Happy Yom Kippur

Since we are living in a mostly Jewish Community, we get to have the Jewish Holidays off of school. Even Mike is out of school tomorrow for Yom Kippur. So tomorrow we are going to head down to NYC for the day and visit the Statue of Liberty. It's something I've wanted to do all my life. I hope it's a fun family day. I'll let you know how it goes.

TV anyone?

Not that we have a lot of time for TV, but there are a couple of shows that we really like. Ever since our visit with the Kay girls, my girls have loved watching the Gillmore girls. My DVR is filled with all of their episodes. It's their treat when their homework is done.
And my guilty pleasure is watching a couple reality TV shows. I love Project Runway. It's coming down to the finalle. I think Jerell or Korto is going to win, although Leanne always surprises me. Kelly drives me crazy with her attitude. I don't have time during the day to sit and watch a show, so I record them on my DVR and watch them after the kids go to sleep. It's better that way because I can fast forward the commercials and I don't get interruptions from the kids. I also watch America's Next Top Model (although I don't know if I should admit that), Top Design, and Sheer Genius.

Randall's Farm

Have I meantioned that I love fall in any of my previous posts? (j/k). We found the perfect Fall activity for this fine saturday morning. We headed to "Randall's Farm" where we were able to go on a hayride to a corn maze and pumpkin field.
It wasn't too busy so we were able just to wander around in the corn. The kids had papers with animals we were supposed to find. This maze wasn't nearly as big as Staheli's, but it was nice because we didn't get too lost and still had fun.

Here we are at the center of the maze.
Right next to the maze was the pumpkin patch. The kids could wander and pick the pumpkin that they wanted. Even though it was fun to walk around, the pumpkins weren't that big so we opted to pick one from the rows of pumpkins that they had at their greenhouse. The kids are sitting a huge bail of hay painted like a pumpkin. I had a fabulous day and took a million pictures. This is the only time of year that orange is a cool color :)

Farm Pics

Here are some of the fun pictures that I took of the kids at the farm. In the greenhouse there were lots of fun activities for the kids. There was face painting, pumpkin painting, a chicken toss (with a rubber chicken), we made a scarecrow, and there was a mini maze for the little kids. Brianna is sitting on the giant pumpkin playground. They also have a farmers market type store there so we ended the morning with some of their famous cider donuts and fresh apple cider. It tasted really good. Almost like you stuck a straw right into an apple. The kids weren't sure about it because it was a lot thicker than regular apple juice, but they loved the donuts!

Cord at the corn maze

This was one trip that we let Cord run around without the stroller. I mean, how much trouble could he get into here? He LOVED it. He would just run around following his brother and sisters and laugh. He also kept trying to take a shortcut through the corn.

Making of a scarecrow

Something we have never done before - make a scarecrow. On our farm adventure we had the opportunity to make one together. The kids picked a hat, shirt, and pants and we began stuffing with straw. After he was "buff", Mason cut out felt for eyes, Chelsea made the nose, and Brianna constructed the mouth. The biggest challenge was getting "Farmer Brown" home. I put him in the front seat but was unable to fit the seatbelt around him. He doesn't sit to well with the stick up his body. Cord wasn't sure what to think about the new addition to our family.

We don't have many crows for Farmer Brown to scare off, but we set him up by the front door along with the pumpkins we picked out. Maybe he'll scare off the squirrls and rabbits?

Cord sleeping

Cord has the cutest routine when it comes to taking a nap or going to bed. He says something that sounds like "nite nite" and we put him in his crib. We have a pillow there for him, but he lays his whole body on it up against the side rail. He likes to hug either this soft little pooh bear or his doggy and he likes a blanket on top of him as he sticks his cute bum in the air. As I leave the room he pokes his head up and blows kisses when I turn off the light. This summer after all of our travels he got really messed up with his sleeping habits. We had several weeks of him screaming for at least 15 minutes and he would throw out all blankets, animals, etc that happened to be in his crib. So we are very grateful he settled into this cute little ritual.

Girls, Girls, Girls

These 3 musketeers have wanted to do some movie marathons and had one last night. They wanted to watch all of the Harry Potter movies this time. We moved a TV into Chelsea's room and Chelsea set up a table for snacks. I can honestly say I didn't see them most of the night. The girls came over after school and got started. During the movie they had fun doing make-up and hair while looking at magazines. I guess they can multitask well. What a blessing to have such fabulous friends.

Ballerina Brianna

We found a new dance studio for Brianna this month. It's called New England Dance Conservatory. We saw their recital last June and were very impressed with their ballet program. Brianna is taking jazz and Ballet. She loves learning all the names and ballet moves. It's fun to see her excited about it. Chelsea wasn't so in love with the studio and has decided just to focus on her music for now. I'm OK with that. Everyone just needs time to find their "thing".
On a side note - when is this girl going to stop loosing teeth? I swear, just when you think she has lost all her baby teeth, more come out. This week she has lost 2 teeth. One of them came out in pieces over the course of a couple of days.

Halloween Decor

This week has been a little crazy for me. I was on a committee at work to help the staff learn to use our new computer charting system. So I have been working 11 pm - 7 am. Although it's nice to be home in the evenings to put my kids in bed, it's hard to work more days than normal because I'm still up all night. Brianna and I did manage to find some time to get out the halloween decorations one night though. We had fun together putting things up to help us get into the holiday mood. She did a really nice job deciding where to put things. Chelsea thought we were crazy because it's so long until Halloween. It was October 1st, that's all I needed.

I love Halloween, but I don't like all the spooky, scary things. I just love it when the kids get dressed up and I love carving pumpkins. I love the feeling in the air as it's getting cooler. I LOVE the autumn colors on the trees. I just love everything about fall.
